"Can't you say that in simple ENGLISH"

Many of you would be wandering what does the above heading is all about. I never thaught that I would be writing some thing about the teachers here at XIM, But they got the place not because of, they have a huge impact on me or any such attachment to there teaching's but beacuse some of them have their own unique way of teaching, Some were inductive enough to make us sleep and some make us shivering untill their lecture was over. Though we are in second semester and there are very few such unforgetable experience, let's see what more has still to come.
It was our first semester and we have just accostomed to the new ambience of MBA, Bhubneswar, sleepless nights etc....etc... . Then began our Micro Economics Classes and Mrs. Lata Ravindran as our professor, no doubt she is one of the best faculty of Eco in India, but the way she teaches has made nearly half of the student sleeping no matter where they sit, either on the first bench of the class or at the last. The monotonous way in which she taught us was making each of us more soporific, May be as she was having the first class of the day most of the time was the reason, and we used to repent the act while giving the exams, when the concept of Eco. looked like a distant dreams hard to achieve. But still she was one of the best faculty in terms of Knowledge.
Our Interaction with our first Visting faculty is also unforgetable, Mr. Tapan Panda Prof. Marketing. What amuses me was the way he used to start the lecture, you never know from the talks of his when he will enter the periphery of Marketing, One thing that was never missing from his lectures were the Special Examples he used to give in class, and offcourse for "WHY BAJAJ PULSER IS DEFINATELY MALE ?". How can be forget the special treatment he used to give to Girls of our batch. I think he has some special regards for them.
Our another visiting faculty Mr. R.K. Bal prof for Cost and Account Management. Special punchlines of him : "Silennnnnnncccceee" , "Now I will give a Question, Identify the person ",
"Our Chartered Accountant Friends will Help us", and the most important of our presentation is "DELIGHT YOUR CUSTOMER's".
Now the most talked about man on the campus, whose warning was constantly given to us by our seniors(I find them more terrified by him then our ELITE batch), Mr. Banikant Mishra Prof. for Financial Management. Sincerity is the least that is expected from us. The rules and regulation were to be followed at any cost, which typically reminds me of "Amitabh Bachan's role of an Adminstrator of a college in the movie Mohabbatein". The only reason for not being present in the class should be the death of somebody in the house or you are severely ill. He has his own way of Grading and checking of the term papers and cheating in the exam would definately would lead to a 'F' in the final grades.
Most of the answer given to him were wrong as we are unable to "COME DOWN TO THE LEVEL OF THE COMMON MAN" and the language we used was having a very degree of Complexity and he expected the opposite "CANT YOU SAY THAT IN SIMPLE ENGLISH".
I think every body used to make himself present in the class, failing of which could be treated as high degree of indicipline and Insincere act, and would cost a 0.2 deduction in the grades. The Financial classes was also an oppurtunity for most of us to learn proper english that we have missed out since ages like knowing the difference between the "STATEMENT and CONJECTURE". And sometime Most of the sentence were found to be Missing the elements like verbs and nouns.
Still this is just the trailor of an interesting story lets see what the whole movie brings out............

Life is Beautiful

Life is beautiful,good and fine,
though we dont have time for you and mine,

Life is sick, dull and boring,
though we make it loving and caring,

Life is trauma, solemn and sad,
but we do many things to lessen that debt,

Life is rewarding, achieving, and winning
but we waste that quarreling and grueling,

Life is trade, we buy and sell for gain,
we give and share to lessen its pain,

Life is to create, break and make,
never be caring what does it takes.

Direct from DELL

In this world where you can live only a single life, and could not taste the multi flavor that it offers. So, I feel that the books people write about themselves or about there experiences that they had in their life, or it could be an unsual incidence that they would like to share. These could give a glimpse of such things that we may not be able to touch its periphery, but by reading about them, makes you as a part of the ongoing phenomenon. This is a short summary of life of Michael Dell basically taken from his book "Direct from Dell". Also a set of brief learnings during his tenure at Dell. So, this is Mr. Dell..............
At 13, Michael Dell was the young man with a knack for taking apart his Apple computer and an ambitioin to run an business. Today, after becoming the youngest CEO in History to head a Fortune 500 company, he leads one ofthe most profitable and innovative organsation of he world.

Michael Dell releates the remarable story of Dell Computers rise to suceess. Beginning in his college dorn with $1000, he set out to beat IBM at their own games, created the direct sales model(a Dell halmark) and pioneered the customer support, combining it with the unravelled speed to market andd a fierce commitment to product quality and performance. But the story of Dell Computer is no fairy tale - along the way Dell made mistakes and learned some hard lessons, emerging stronger as a result.

Lessons Learned :-
If you've got a idea, it pays to do something about it.

Sometimes it's better not to ask or to listen when people tell yoy something cant be done.

With every new growth oppurtunitycame a commensurate level of risk.

No matter what your industry, try to identify potential problems early- and fix them fast.

Involve your customers early in the development process.

Establish a fludity and consistency of Communications.

The right people in the right job are instrumental to a company sucess.

you need to engendera sense of personal investment in all the your employees- which comes of three things: resposibilty, accountibility and shared sucess.

you need to embrace an experimental attitude in making deccision.

Make failure acceptable as long as it creates learning opputunites.
Delight your customers.
Dont be satisfied in learning your industry. learn as much as you can about your customers previos experience, not only with your competitors, but with other companies as well.
Go beyond selling your product or services, and make yourself valuable to your customers as an advisior.
Speed for market is important for two reason. One is that it creates competitive value that can be shared between buyer and supplier. The other is that when it comes to delivering the latest product - no matter what it is - you're either quick or you're dead.
Dont underestimate the value of information.

Flip the equation: Dont settle for the standard supply/ demand relationship. Work towards Demand/supply.
Differentiate for the competitive edge.

Learning to thrive on constant change is the next frontier.
Reorient your priorities : Price is not the prevailing factor in the connected ecconomy; as the internet levels the competitive playing field, competitive value is more apt to be found in execution. Stress personalization, convinience, ease of interaction for your customers.

My first Diwali Outside Home

The day a joined the engineering college, i know i would be missing all the enjoyment of festivities, but fortunately in the four years of my engineering that never happened. Only one incident by which i would have really missed it was when i had for a 15 days training for Network and ERP at Ramco systems Kolkatta, as our training was just completed on a day before Diwali as they(Bengalies) dont celebrate it with much vigour and enjoyment.

The other friends of mine who where with me made an equal effort for me in finding a suitable train that could help me in getting to my home town at least in the late evening, when whole of the sagar is illumnated with crackers, candles and Diya's, and puja begins.

As there was no direct train for it, i had to break the journey and get down at Katni(a junction in MP), fortunately the Mumbai mail droped me at the Katni station station at the right time when another train is available for sagar. while i was in the train i was constantly thinking of whether i would be able to reach there or not, fortunately i did.

The second is incident is this Diwali, where i had missed it. As we dont have a long holidays for diwali at XIMB, the people whose home are far away had to celeberate here and our localites friends were also with us during the celebration. But the day started as if like there is some mourning in the hostel. everything was quite and still, though we had made the preparation for celebrating diwali, the intial phase was equally boroing compared to the amount of work that we have to do in home and where there always an spate of guest and relatives.

I tried to reduce the boredom by trying to sleep for the whole day, but that always plays a hide and seek game with me, when i required it the most. In the evening we made some movement and went to the RAM temple here that has really given me some satisfaction and feel that today is diwali, then we went to the ISKON temple and finally back to the hostel to find that the puja in the hostel has already began, then came the blasting part ofthe day, lots of crackers with all the hostellites taking an active part in it, never celeberated the diwali in such a way with so many people, especially as a restrained myself from burning the crackers for the last 12 years.

Still i'll never forget this diwali, enjoyed the way it is celebrated, and helps in keping the sprits of the hostelites.

Contraries of Life

The Distance is long, the aim is high,
To get ahead always, without a sigh

There is a spate of people, but draught of Humans
do good at your best, that is for which each of us fight

Education is around, but knowledge hard to find,
We speak at every count and say a lot without a sound

Politician's rule the roost, but leaders are very few
charity is enormous, but lacks the Kindness hue.
